Editorial, Art and Design, and Production
Perhaps the most ubiquitous role in publishing, the editor oversees a wide scope of work. The editorial session will cover the editor’s wider role in the publishing process, including the editor’s relationship with an author, day-to-day editorial tasks, and the skills necessary to excel in an editorial role.
Art and design play a crucial role in publishing beyond the gorgeous book covers that adorn store shelves. This session will cover the different processes that fall under art and design, how art and design works with other departments, and how to balance an individual creative vision with the needs of the author and publisher.
Production is an unsung hero within the publishing industry, boasting a varied and dynamic department tasked with getting the physical books into the hands of readers. This session will break down the different roles and processes within the production department and how production is evolving in these unprecedented times.

Book marketing requires a wide range of creative and technical skills to connect books with their audience. This session will cover aspects of marketing including partnerships and promotions, social media, and influencer outreach.
Publicity is an integral department in publishing tasked with amplifying authors and their titles, ensuring that their books get into as many hands as possible. This session will reveal how publicists oversee and organize media outreach and work with authors and the media to create unique coverage.

Data is a rapidly evolving department that plays a key role in many publishing sectors, from marketing to sales. In this session, panelists will share how they analyze data in their roles, how they use data to influence the decisions they make, and what skills they need to analyze data and inform publishing decisions.
Publishing requires a robust legal department working behind the scenes in order to get books in the hands of readers. This session will cover what rights and permissions entail, how rights and permissions departments work with other publishing departments, and the skills necessary to start a path to rights and permissions.

Digital is a growing and exciting sector of the publishing industry, particularly in the production of online educational material. This session will cover how the digital department works with other publishing departments and how educational digital courseware is growing in the industry.
Right at this moment, a sales team is hard at work getting your next favourite book on the shelves of bookstores and libraries. This session will cover how a sales team operates with other branches of a publishing company, how book sales reps approach customers and accounts, and the skills necessary to flourish in book sales.
