In the latest opinion piece on Academica Forum, Leigh-Anne Graham, Senior Advisor to the Canadian Publishers’ Council, recently reframed the contentious OER vs. Textbook debate.
“The reality is that commercial courseware and OER have coexisted for many years, and both come at a cost,” Graham said. “While some instructors have the inclination, time, and capacity to create or leverage OER resources for their students, just as many choose commercial courseware for the innovation, support, and value that they provide. A flexible and scalable solution requires agile thinking beyond the textbook vs. OER debate.”
