CPC Announces the Return of the Doors Open Publishing Webinar Series

Do you have a passion for books, literature, and learning? Have you considered a career in publishing, but aren’t familiar with the kinds of roles that exist in the industry? Are you interested in learning about the unique rewards, challenges, and issues in Canadian publishing?

Doors Open Publishing is the event for you! After over a thousand viewers in 2023, Doors Open Publishing is back for a second year with a new webinar format that gives you a greater opportunity to drive the conversation.

The Canadian Publishers’ Council (CPC) has created the Doors Open Publishing webinar series in an effort to make the Canadian publishing industry more transparent to those who have been historically underrepresented in this industry—including, but not limited to, those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of colour; members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community; and persons with disabilities. Comprised of seven webinar sessions conducted over three weeks, Doors Open Publishing will introduce you to some of our colleagues from different publishing companies who all work in the creation of books, spanning from design to distribution. Speakers will come from various trade and educational publishing houses across Canada, including Penguin Random House Canada, HarperCollins Canada, Simon & Schuster Canada, Oxford University Press, Wiley, Scholastic Canada, and more.

The CPC is excited to bring Doors Open Publishing back for 2024 with a more in-depth and personalized webinar experience. This year’s webinar format has been extended to allow you to learn more from our panel of publishing professionals. Speakers will provide a broad overview of their respective departments in addition to discussing some of the biggest issues in Canadian publishing today. Join us for in-depth discussions on topics ranging from equitable representation in publishing to learning the latest in author contract negotiations, and so much more! Each session will include a 45-minute panel discussion followed by a 15-minute break and will conclude with a 30-minute Q&A session. You will also have the opportunity to shape the discussion by submitting your questions upon registration.

Doors Open Publishing is scheduled to run from February 13, 2024 to February 27, 2024. The webinar series will take place over Zoom and is free of charge to all participants who register for the event.
